Metal-ceramic restorations consist of a metal base on which the ceramic is installed. This system is based on the lost wax technique, in which the metal material will replace the wax restoration model. The success of these restorations depends on the following factors:

- Using alloys with a high melting point (more than 1150 degrees Celsius).
- The use of high-melting ceramics that are baked at a temperature of about 100 to 150 degrees Celsius below the melting point of the alloy.
- Correspondence of thermal expansion coefficients of ceramic and metal
- Use of ceramics and alloys that create a strong bond together
- Correct restoration design
- Sufficient space should be considered for ceramics to maximize beauty
- Using accurate and appropriate casting methods
- Using the right porcelains to achieve the right color, in order to be uniform with the other teeth of the patient
- Using standard soldering methods to connect fixed bridges.
